May 20th: Herb Garden Picks for the South

IMG_3499

Every week, we plan a 10:30 a.m. tour that focuses on growing and utilizing your herbs. No, don’t keep them for years as treasures in the cupboard. None of that oregano still in the can from your first year of marriage. Smile. USE herbs frequently and freely. They are taste enhancing and medicinal. Yes, you heard right!

This week, our walking tour includes your own cup of herbs to dry and use. Bring a hat and walk the farm with us!

Our demonstration will be at 1:00 and will feature an herb vinegar how-to, with recipes.

PICNICS are available between noon and 1:00 p.m., $8.50 per person. There are numerous outdoor tables and spots where you can sit and enjoy lunch with a friend. CALL us BY NOON on Thursday to order and leave your name, number of lunches desired, and your phone or email. Includes an entree sandwich, scones, dessert and tea!

May 13 is Culinary Lavender Friday!

Drying Culinary Lavender

The “English” lavenders, lavandula angustifolia varieties, are the sweetest lavenders both in character and in culinary quality. It is argued that many of the intermedias are just as good for cooking, but, we are entitled to our preferences! Experience has shown us that these sprawling beauties stay on the stem well, and hold their sweet ester.

This Friday, we will be cutting some of these while they are in their prime, and demonstrating drying techniques. We will be taste testing lavender chocolate powdered sugar and will show you how to make your own! Culinary buds will be for sale in the lavender barn.

Picnic lunches:

We don’t want you to miss out, so PREORDER by Thursday at noon, 706-595-5081, for your packed lunch to be ready on Friday!! Enjoy your picnic on the farm. $8.50 per person, includes lunch, dessert and tea.

Tour will be at 10:30 this week and demonstrations will be at 1:00. Come on out to the Farm!

May at White Hills Farm means lavender is on!

Wedding Time
Wedding Time

The farm is bustling and we are open all of the Fridays in May, EXCEPT for Memorial Day weekend when we will host
Maggie Hines’ and Branden Critell’s wedding festivities. We are so excited to see the old walnut tree back on
duty as the sacred spot for exchanging vows. Verbena has filled the valley at the east side of the farm. Purple runs wild!

This month, please call (706-595-5081) by noon on Thursday to let us know if you want a Friday picnic lunch. Cost is $8.50 per person and includes lunch, dessert and drink!

Tours are nicest in the morning and start at 10:30 am. Our demonstrations change weekly and are at 1:30 in the lavender barn. Come help us with demonstrations, have lunch, shop and tour the lavender gardens. This week, we are making Tuscan Herb Blend, an Italian classic combination. Field grown, air dried and farm fresh. Come on out to the farm!!
