Farm Fridays, Going Strong!

This year, we have opened lavender season with a cooperative agritourism emphasis! On Fridays, we are open for walk-abouts, demonstrations and sales as McDuffie County’s featured lavender farm. Lavender season is upon us and we are currently harvesting English Lavender. This Friday, May 30th, at 11 a.m., we will be demonstrating the making of our herbal vinegars and offering samples of our Lavender, Blueberry and Purple Basil Vinegar. A featured iced tea blend will also be available for your sampling. One of the things that makes us unique is our emphasis on farm grown herbals becoming farm generated end products, a “value added” emphasis important to us and to the freshness and quality we provide our customers. Many of our plantings and gardens have native species and heirloom varieties as their anchors. Our plants are grown in cultivated native soils with access to the micro-nutrients and soil components only found in a native planting system. Come on out to the Farm!!

New Ink and Turn the Page…

Summer bulbils and pods, you pick!

Bloom Time at WHF
Bloom Time at WHF

Sometimes, it is time to turn the page, and what better time than on the waning of a cool spring moon! Summer is upon us and with it an early lavender bloom. Time for the beginning of scented days and busy product making. Three lovely girls spent all day Friday cutting and screening culinary buds, thanks gals! When early bloom occurs, and it miraculously occurred given the amount of cold North Wind we encountered this year, it means we may even have a second bloom of lavender, during the summer. For now, it is time to come out and see the blush of summer on the Lavandins, intermediate lavenders with parents in the English and varietal families, and the full bloom of the ever sweet English culinary purples. (Thanks to Augusta Magazine for their review of our farm’s lavender on the Garden Page.) We will be open this Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. for sales and walk-abouts! Come on out to the farm! Soaps, salves, balms, fresh herbs and J and L eggs, all available.

OOPS! Closed on Friday due to surgery…

A sweet little incompetent ER Doc told me I was having a bad dream last month, did no physical exam, and yes, sent me right home all hung on my EKG looking just great. Medicine, today. No curiosity, no cure! Yes, I am griping! However, last Sunday night I had another “bad dream”, an attentive practitioner REALLY considered his differential diagnosis, did the work-up Spring 025and turned up a chronic gallstone occlusion, pancreatitis, etc.! THUS, we are closed this Friday and I am recuperating well from surgery. We miss everyone and look forward to brighter days ahead! A bad dream, my foot:)
